Samsung to Preview Galaxy Tab 8.9 This Friday (update)
Updated on August 8 – video added below.
We’re expecting the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9 to hit the US any day now. It landed at the FCC months ago and at the end of July, Samsung pushed out a screensaver app for retailers to put on actual Galaxy Tab 8.9 display models. Next up, Samsung is going to be previewing the Galaxy Tab 8.9 at some event on Friday according to the tweet above. Note that Friday is the same date we’ll see the TouchWiz UX update roll out across the remainder of Galaxy Tab 10.1 tablets not updated at some New York event earlier this week.

Update – This event, which I told you about last week, actually happened, although no major tech blogs picked on it and no wonder, the event was aimed at women bloggers / social media. Anyway, a site called Tecca managed to get some hands on video of the Galaxy Tab 8.9. Nothing we don’t know already. It’ll ship with the TouchWiz UX update pre-installed. Still no mention of pricing or a release date in the US.
Pricing did get a mention at launch earlier this year – $469 for 16GB and $569 for 32GB, Wi-Fi only models, but there’s a chance that may be revised. Some evidence points to Verizon releasing a 4G model in November and AT&T should a 3G model that’s ready to go since it hit the FCC at the start of June. I expect the Wi-Fi only model to hit this month or in September like in Europe.
